KENYA HAS A STERILE OPPOSITION IN BOTH THE SENATE AND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

My condolences continue trickling in, to those who innocently lost their lives. My heart is with the survivors, who now are trying to pick on a new life. I know that life will never be the same again for them, although give it a new look, and you will realize that it will be the same. My anger is with the second and the fourth estate. I hold my anger with abated breath and now I am breathing fire.

The legislature has the opposition which checks the Government. The opposition asks the hard questions to the government which is expected that, the government will answer. Now comes the question, Do we have an opposition? I did not like the solidarity that was shown in the recent crisis because it killed responsibility, usurped in us the audacity to ask questions and neutralized the opposition and media.

It seems as though no one wants to know what happened. As the clock ticks ominously, and night and days unfold, we slowly distance ourselves with the agony and torture of Westgate victims. We sit on TV every day, read newspaper every minute, Blog, tweet, facebook and do all kinds of things, but for God sakes where is the opposition?

Why is it that the government is not being put on toes? Does it mean that sad means forgetting the cause to share in the loss? We all hugely lost, hey presto can we look for the cause and possible solutions? Can’t we know of what happened and forge from there?

My pain comes with the discovery that, despite open criticism on how the Westgate Mall issue was handled, the opposition has remained noncommittal. It has just lost its allure, and waits for the parliamentary committee to submit its report so that may be, it may comment.

I am no longer seeing press conferences. There are no rantings in public rallies. It seems like no one is attending the Sunday service anymore. The sad part of the story is; we are being called upon to unite. Every word that spews out of the mouth is unity emblazoned in the tagline, WeAreOne. Are we one in solidarity with those suffering or with those issuing no answers to questions we are asking? We can be one only if we get answers to questions asked. Or at least a picture of what really transpired on the fateful 21st of September.

I see a future society which is overridden by emotions. I see a future where, in cohorts with those who commit such heinous crimes, like the Westgate, we shall be sending our brothers and sisters into the soil day by day. I see a situation where, our love for the neighbor shall outweigh our reason to come to terms with everything that is besieging our sister. I see a situation where our leaders shall look at our every display of unity and keep mum as society, entangled in grief sings of unity and reaps at the expense our ignorance.

If the opposition refuses to bring reason by demanding for the immediate answers to questions beguiling us, then it is a good as sterile. You don’t have to look at your inadequacies and complain; you have to rise to occasion and perform to the best of your energy.

Everybody now believes that, the Westgate Mall attack was a terrorist attack. For God sakes, where are the terrorists. Do we know of the remaining hostages or at least their remains?  Will we ever receive justice for the slain victims? Will the families who have a missing relative come to know where their relatives are?

No one wants to answer to the above questions. No one wants to ask them. Everybody is complaining that there is little information that is being given. They all cry that someone is sleeping on job. The opposition in laxity is afraid to voice their opinions as they always do.

I believe that if we worked out a rigid frame work of WeAreOne-isim; if we let those responsible shed light to what occurred and then, pick up the trail from there we shall overcome. The longer we keep complaining, the longer the opposition keeps sleeping, and the longer we continue with the adage of WeAreOne, the longer we shall stay in the dark. Another attack shall find us unprepared. We shall cry. We shall sympathize. We shall not ask questions. We shall WeAreOne. But, one thing shall remain clear we shall never be one with the truth that bedevils us.

HOW FEMINISM IS ADDRESSED IN THE RIVER AND THE SOURCE

The story revolves around Akoko. The buck stops with women in the fight against oppressive testosterone. It is upon women to tap into their innermost strength to transform the world it what they imagined. Akoko, being on the losing end in a male-dominated family fought her way to earn her father’s love. She had to put her feet on the ground to make the world recognize her. Aloo, the family spokesman said that Akoko’s hard work had been incorporated into a saying that women sending their children on errands would mention her. She did not show any female shyness when she was introduced to her husband to be. With her head held high, Akoko stirred into Owuor Kembo a feeling that had not earned vocabulary among the Luo - love. Akoko did not subject the chief to monogamy. She was okay with him marrying as many women as her wealth could manage. It was the chief’s decision, despite growing outcry, to remain faithful to his wife. EXPLORING FEMINISM IN BLOSSOMS OF THE SAVANNAH AND A DOLL'S HOUSE

Feminism emerged as a movement to fight for the social, political and economic rights of the women. It is more of a political movement that recognises the individuality and sexuality of women and how historically and religion wise have been segregated. Before the advent of feminism, women lived under the tutelage of their male counterparts. For instance, a woman did not have any right to choose whom to marry, it was the prerogative of the male family member to choose. In the TV Serial, Rome, Julius 'Octavian' Caesar, who later became Augustus Caesar, makes a decision that affects both his mother and sister in a way unimaginable. The mother, Artia of the Julii is in love with Marcus Antonius (Mark Antony) and she plans to marry him. However, Caesar decides it will be impossible for the two lovebirds to make it official. For political reasons, he settles for his sister Octavia as a suitable wife for Mark Anthony! There are many examples of male subjugation in numerous cultu...

THEME OF MARRIAGE IN A DOLL'S HOUSE

Henrik Ibsen explores marriage as a tool for women subjugation and at the same time as a weapon of financial emancipation. He also looks at marriage as a level-headed arrangement between two like-minded individuals. Marriage is one of the most celebrated unions in the world. Similarly, it enjoys such high moral ground in religious and many cultural circles. In A Doll’s House, Henrik Ibsen explores this vital part of the society in the life and times of Nora, her husband Torvald Helmer and other characters. From the onset, marriage seems a happy association since Nora is jubilant and bubbly as a wife. Although money could be one of the factors that threaten this marriage, Nora is capable of handling it. Torvald is very particular about the family’s expenditure and warns Nora to be careful. Being naïve and playing innocence helps Norah to get away with her husband’s restraint. In their association, Helmer holds the high moral ground, chief financier and key decision-maker. He ...
