WRITING YOUR HIGH SCHOOL ESSAY

Writing high school essay is as simple as telling a story. Students ought to find their own perspective in relation to the question asked then whip out the writing magic and get to work.

Writing an essay is as simple as telling a story. In a case where the essay is based on the set text, then your essay should reflect the contents therein. It should be clear that different examination councils have different ways and the number of words per essay. However, the simple truth is that all essays follow very simple guidelines.

Firstly. as a student of English or any subject that requires an essay, you need to read the question well and understand what is expected of you. Thereafter, think of the perspective you will take to argue your points. Perspective is your point of view, that is, how you understand the question and the relationships that exist between the question and the set text- if there is any. Once you have identified your perspective, it is important to list down the points you will use to argue your point of view. In advanced writing, this is called pre-writing, but we will come to that later.

Secondly, think about how you will introduce your argument. Remember, in writing, there is always the introduction, body, and conclusion. Your introduction will set the pace of your writing and set you apart from the others. A very well planned introduction outwits the examiners who embellish your work with a high grade. Put more effort into creating a very captivating introduction.

In the body part of the essay, ensure that it follows the laid down rules of writing. Every beginning must have a topic sentence which merges seamlessly with the rest of the paragraph. Always leave the paragraph when you are sure that your idea in the paragraph is fully developed. At the end of each paragraph, include a sentence that shows the connections of the paragraph to the next.

In the conclusion, try to validate your point of view and whether it agrees with the question. Also, show that the evidence you have argued agrees with your original statement- which in this case, we call the point of view.

Comments

  1. We started writing this from childhood. When I first wrote it I was asked to write it on my best friend. But this was the first time for me, so my teacher helped me in this, he told how to write an essay. After that, I came to know and I learned a lot about this essay writing
I completely agree with you that before writing an essay, we should read the question thoroughly about what it is about writing. The most important thing to me is the structure of the Essay. If you do not know about the structure then it can be difficult for you to write an essay.

EXPLORING FEMINISM IN BLOSSOMS OF THE SAVANNAH AND A DOLL'S HOUSE

Feminism emerged as a movement to fight for the social, political and economic rights of the women. It is more of a political movement that recognises the individuality and sexuality of women and how historically and religion wise have been segregated. Before the advent of feminism, women lived under the tutelage of their male counterparts. THEME OF MARRIAGE IN A DOLL'S HOUSE

Henrik Ibsen explores marriage as a tool for women subjugation and at the same time as a weapon of financial emancipation. He also looks at marriage as a level-headed arrangement between two like-minded individuals. Marriage is one of the most celebrated unions in the world. Similarly, it enjoys such high moral ground in religious and many cultural circles. In A Doll’s House, Henrik Ibsen explores this vital part of the society in the life and times of Nora, her husband Torvald Helmer and other characters. From the onset, marriage seems a happy association since Nora is jubilant and bubbly as a wife. Although money could be one of the factors that threaten this marriage, Nora is capable of handling it. Torvald is very particular about the family’s expenditure and warns Nora to be careful. Being naïve and playing innocence helps Norah to get away with her husband’s restraint. In their association, Helmer holds the high moral ground, chief financier and key decision-maker. He ...
